Okay, so today I decided to dive into something I’ve been putting off for a while – getting a shiny Kartana in Pokémon. I’ve always thought Kartana looked super cool, and the shiny version is even better with that white and orange color scheme. So, I grabbed my 3DS, fired up Ultra Sun, and got to work.
The Preparation
First things first, I needed to make sure I was prepared. Catching Ultra Beasts, especially shiny ones, can be a real pain. I made sure I had a few things:
- A Pokémon with False Swipe: This is a must-have to get the Ultra Beast down to 1 HP without accidentally knocking it out. I used my trusty Scizor.
- A Pokémon with a status move: I went with my Butterfree, which knows Sleep Powder. Paralysis works too, but I prefer sleep.
- Lots of Beast Balls: These have a much higher catch rate on Ultra Beasts than regular Poké Balls. I stocked up – like, really stocked up. I think I bought 200.
- Roto Catch: This O-Power increases your catch rate, and it’s pretty easy to get from the Roto Loto. I made sure to have plenty of these charged up.
- Patience: This is probably the most important thing. Shiny hunting can take hours, sometimes even days. I mentally prepared myself for a long haul.
The Hunt Begins
Kartana appears in Ultra Forest, which you get to through the Ultra Wormhole. I hopped on my Lunala and headed straight there. The encounter rate for Kartana isn’t too bad, so I just started running around in the grass, encountering it over and over.
The basic routine was this:
- Encounter Kartana.
- If it’s NOT shiny, run away.
- If it IS shiny, immediately use Sleep Powder.
- Then, use False Swipe to get it down to 1 HP.
- Start throwing Beast Balls and pray!
- If it breaks out, put it back to sleep and keep throwing.
- Use Roto Catch when you’re getting low and desperate.
I settled into a rhythm. Encounter, run, encounter, run. For the first hour, nothing. Then two more hours, still nothing. I started to question my life choices. Was this really how I wanted to spend my Saturday? But I kept going. I’d come this far, right?
The Shiny Appears!
After about four and a half hours, it finally happened. I encountered a Kartana, and BAM! There it was, in all its white and orange glory. My heart started racing. I was so afraid I’d mess it up.
I quickly followed my routine. Butterfree used Sleep Powder, and Kartana went down for a nap. Then, Scizor came out and used False Swipe, leaving it with just 1 HP. Now for the nerve-wracking part: the Beast Balls.
The first few broke out immediately. Then, a few more. I was starting to sweat. I put it back to sleep again and kept throwing. Finally, after what felt like an eternity (but was probably only about 15 Beast Balls), one of them clicked shut!
Success!
I caught it! I actually caught the shiny Kartana! I was so relieved and excited, I almost dropped my 3DS. I saved the game about five times, just to be sure. Then, I checked its nature – Jolly, which isn’t perfect, but I definitely didn’t care. It was shiny! That’s all that mattered.
So, there you have it. My shiny Kartana hunt. It was long, it was tedious, but it was ultimately worth it. Now I have a super cool, super rare Pokémon to show off. Time to start thinking about my next shiny hunt… maybe something a little less stressful next time!
