Okay, so let’s talk about the Supra in Gran Turismo 3. Man, that brings back memories.

When I first got GT3, like many people, I didn’t have much starting cash. You gotta win some races first, right? I remember grinding through those early Sunday Cups, just trying to build up enough credits. I had my eye on a few cars, but the Supra RZ (JZA80) always stood out.

Finally scraped together enough dough. Went straight to the Toyota dealership in the game. Buying it felt like a real achievement back then. First thing I did was take it out on the track, completely stock. It felt… okay. Definitely had power, you could feel the potential, but it was a bit boat-like in the corners. Heavy.

Getting Down to Tuning

This was where the fun really started for me. Couldn’t afford much at first. Basic stuff:

  • Oil change (always the first step!)
  • Sports tires – made a huge difference immediately.
  • Maybe a basic air filter and exhaust.

As I won more races with it, I started pouring the credits back in. Suspension was next. Getting that dialed in took ages. Trial and error, you know? Stiffen it too much, it gets twitchy. Too soft, it wallows. I remember spending hours just tweaking settings in the garage, then testing on Trial Mountain or Deep Forest Raceway.

Then came the power upgrades. Engine tuning, turbo kits. That’s when the Supra really woke up. The acceleration became insane. Keeping it pointed straight was sometimes a challenge, but man, on tracks with long straights, it just flew.

Driving the Beast

I used that Supra for a ton of races. The FR Challenge series felt tailor-made for it. It wasn’t always easy, especially against lighter cars on technical circuits. Had to really learn how to manage the weight and power, feather the throttle out of corners.

There were frustrating moments, spinning out after spending ages tuning. But getting that perfect lap, or winning a tough championship after putting in all that work modifying the car? Super satisfying. It really felt like my car.

So yeah, the GT3 Supra. Wasn’t just pixels on a screen. It was a project. Took time, effort, lots of virtual credits, but driving the end result was just plain cool. Definitely one of my favorite cars from that game.
