Glasgow Football Clubs: Which Team Should You Support (Locals Guide)?

Alright, so today I decided to dig into the Glasgow football scene. I’ve always known it’s a big deal, but I wanted to get a clearer picture of all the clubs involved. You know, go beyond just the obvious two.

Glasgow Football Clubs: Which Team Should You Support (Locals Guide)?

First, I started with a simple search. Nothing fancy, just “Glasgow football clubs” to see what would pop up.

The initial results, predictably, were dominated by Celtic and Rangers. Yeah, yeah, we all know about the Old Firm rivalry. But I was looking for more than that, I want to find something different.

So, I kept digging. I scrolled through a bunch of articles and Wikipedia pages, gradually building a list. It wasn’t as straightforward as I’d hoped. Some sites only listed the “professional” clubs, others threw in amateur teams too. I had to do some cross-referencing to make sure I wasn’t missing anyone or including teams that weren’t actually based in Glasgow.

I decided to focus on the clubs playing in the recognized leagues, from the Scottish Premiership down to the lower divisions. This felt like a good way to keep things manageable and relevant.

Here’s the list, I built out at the end:

  • Celtic FC – Obviously.
  • Rangers FC – Their biggest and competiter.
  • Partick Thistle FC – Heard of them, but didn’t know much.
  • Queen’s Park FC – Turns out they have a really interesting history, oldest in scotland!
  • Clyde FC – I think I’d seen their name in some lower league tables before.

The list is short, but it’s enought to know, I think.

I spent a good chunk of the afternoon reading up on each of these clubs. Queen’s Park, in particular, caught my attention. Their amateur status and long history are pretty fascinating.

Overall, it was a worthwhile exercise. I now feel like I have a better grasp of the Glasgow football landscape, and I’ve got a few new teams to keep an eye on. Maybe I’ll even try to catch a game or two that aren’t just the Old Firm! The process let me learn a lot.
