Alright, so week 4 waivers. Man, that was a thing. Lemme walk you through what I actually did, ’cause it’s always a bit of a rodeo, right?
First off, I sat down Tuesday morning, coffee in hand, and just stared at my teams. You know the drill. Some guys got banged up in week 3, others just plain stunk. So, the first real step was figuring out who was actually droppable. That’s always a tough pill to swallow, admitting a draft pick was a bust or that a guy you had hopes for just isn’t cutting it. I made a mental list, then a real list on a scrap piece of paper. Old school, I know.
Next up, the scouting report. This wasn’t some super deep dive, mind you. I basically just scanned through the usual fantasy news blurbs, saw who was getting some buzz after Sunday’s games. I’m talking about looking at snap counts, targets, who got goal-line carries – that kind of basic stuff. I try not to get too swayed by one big game, but you gotta see who’s getting opportunities, you know?
Then, I actually started matching up my needs with who was available. One of my leagues, I was desperate for a running back. Absolutely desperate. My top two guys are questionable, so it was panic stations. In another league, I was looking for a receiver with some upside, someone who might pop later.
Putting in the Claims
This is where the real “fun” begins – or the stress, depending on how you look at it. I use FAAB (Free Agent Acquisition Budget) in most of my leagues, so I had to figure out how much to bid. It’s always a gamble. You bid too low, you get nothing. You bid too high, you feel like a sucker, especially if the guy busts.
- For that running back I desperately needed, I actually put in a pretty aggressive bid. Like, more than I usually would. But desperate times, right?
- For the receiver, I was a bit more chill. Threw a couple of bucks at him, nothing crazy. Figured if I got him, cool. If not, no biggie.
- I also put in a few $0 or $1 claims on some long shots, just in case everyone else overlooked them. Sometimes you snag a decent handcuff or a speculative add for nothing.
And then you wait. That’s the part I hate. You submit your claims, and then it’s just… waiting for the waivers to process overnight. I always try to distract myself, but I end up checking my phone a bunch anyway.
The Morning After. Woke up Wednesday, first thing I did was check the league sites. Good news on the running back front – my aggressive bid paid off! Got him. Felt pretty good about that one. The receiver I was kinda meh on? Someone else outbid me by a dollar. Classic. Can’t win ’em all.
After the main waivers ran, I did a quick scan of who was left in free agency. You know, the guys nobody put a claim on. Sometimes you find a decent kicker or a defense streaming option. Didn’t see much this week, though. The cupboard was pretty bare after the initial rush.
