So yesterday I needed to edit a document where my boss could see exactly what I changed. I heard about this track changes feature but never actually used it before. Felt totally clueless where to start.

Opening the Document

First I double-clicked my Word file like always. That part was easy. My messy draft popped up right away.

Hunting for the Magic Button

I stared at all those menus at the top:

  • Clicked “Home” – nada
  • Tried “Insert” – just pictures and tables
  • “Layout”? Nope that’s margins

Finally spotted “Review” and thought that sounds promising.

Clicked “Review” and boom! Right there in the middle – a button literally called “Track Changes”. Couldn’t believe it was that obvious.

Making It Work

I tapped that button once. Nothing happened? Then noticed it turned dark gray – guess that meant “on”. Wrote a test sentence. Red text appeared with an underline! Did a delete – little red mark showed where I removed stuff.

Tried changing font size:

  • Selected some text
  • Picked bigger font
  • Popped up in purple with side notes!

So that’s how it remembers everything!

Quick Reality Check

Panicked thinking I might mess up my original. Saved a copy called “DRAFT_TRACKED” – always backup folks! Told my boss later: “Open the red and purple circus document!” They actually found it super clear.
