Alright, so the other day, I was having a serious debate with my buddy about which Doctor Who companion was the best (it’s totally Donna, by the way). This got us down a rabbit hole of trying to figure out just how many episodes of Doctor Who there actually are. I mean, it’s been on for, like, forever, right?

Digging into Doctor Who Episodes Count
So, I grabbed my laptop and started my quest.
First I went straight to a normal search engine and put in the question.
I figured I would go to some fan pages, but, boy, that was a mistake. Pages and pages, scrolling, scrolling, scrolling… Too much info, too many opinions. No clear answer!
- Classic Who this.
- New Who that.
- Specials here, specials there.
It was a mess. The numbers were all over the place, it’s overwhelming!

So, I decided to be a bit more specific and used some different search terms, still the same mess, so I decided a new approach.
I tried to find some “official” sources.
And…Bingo! After all of that searching and scrolling, it looks like I finally got some solid * let me tell you, it’s not as straightforward as you might think, with all the different eras and specials and whatnot.
I won’t bore you with all the nitty-gritty details I went through. So, the answer is: It is a big number, and big confusing number, with classic episodes, modern episodes, and a bunch of specials. It will make your head spin!
