Okay, so check it, I tried something new with my hair today: melo with braids. Heard about it from a friend and thought, “Why not?”
First off, I prepped my hair. You know, the usual: washed it, deep conditioned it, the whole shebang. Gotta start with a clean slate, right? I used my trusty Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner. Can’t go wrong with that.
Next up, parting. This was the trickiest part, honestly. I wanted the parts to be super clean and even. I grabbed a rat tail comb and went to work. It took a while, I’m not gonna lie, but I think I got it looking pretty decent. I did, like, five braids total, two on each side and one right down the middle.
Then came the braiding. I bought some braiding hair from the local beauty supply store – just some regular black Kanekalon hair. Nothing too fancy. I started with the middle braid, attaching the braiding hair and braiding it all the way down. I made sure it was nice and tight, but not too tight, you know? Gotta protect those edges!
Repeated the same process for the other four braids. Took a couple of hours, but I just put on some music and zoned out. It was kinda therapeutic, actually.
Once all the braids were done, I dipped the ends in hot water to seal them. This is a MUST, otherwise, they’ll unravel. Nobody wants that.
After that, I added some oil sheen to give my hair some shine. And that was it! Melo with braids, done and dusted.
What I learned:
- Parting is key. Take your time and make sure your parts are clean.
- Don’t braid too tight. Your scalp will thank you.
- Hot water is your friend. Seal those ends!
Overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s a fun, different look, and it’s definitely a conversation starter. Might rock this for a while!
