I find they’re generally the most up-to-date and reliable. You get fewer rumors and more facts that way.
So, I clicked on a link that looked like it was from a major sports news outlet that covers tennis extensively. What I’m looking for on these pages is either a direct mention of his next match if it’s scheduled, or a link to his player profile which might have his upcoming tournament schedule.
Sometimes, if he’s currently playing in a tournament, the information is right there: “Next opponent: [Player Name], Date: [Date], Time: [Time]”. That’s the ideal scenario, nice and easy. But, it’s not always that straightforward, especially if he’s between tournaments or if the draw for the next one isn’t out yet.
If I don’t see an immediate match listed, I then look for which tournament he’s slated to play in next. It might say something like “Next Tournament: XYZ Open starting on [Date]”. Okay, good clue. So, my next move is to then specifically search for the “XYZ Open” schedule. This often takes me to the official website for that specific tournament.
Once I’m on a tournament’s site, I start hunting for the ‘Order of Play’ or ‘Schedule’ or ‘Draws’ section. This is where they list who is playing whom, on what court, and at what time. It can take a bit of clicking around because not all tournament websites are designed the same way. Some are clearer than others, that’s for sure.
One really important thing I always try to remember is to check the time zone. Oh man, I’ve been caught out by this before. You see a time, think you’re all set, and then realize it was for a completely different part of the world. So, I always look to see if they specify the local time or provide a way to see it in my own time zone. That’s a big one.
If the tournament is still a ways off, the detailed daily schedule might not be available yet. They might just have the overall tournament dates. In that case, I just make a mental note, or a real one, to check back closer to the start date when the draws are officially released and the order of play is published. Things can also change – withdrawals, rain delays, you name it – so checking closer to the match day is always a good habit.
So yeah, that’s pretty much my process. A bit of searching, some targeted clicking, and paying attention to details like time zones. It’s not super complicated, but it does require a little bit of effort to track down the specifics. But hey, that’s how I make sure I don’t miss out on watching Alcaraz play!
