Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this city building game idea for a while now, and I gotta say, it’s a bigger beast than I thought. I started out all gung-ho, thinking, “Yeah, I can totally do this!” But it got real complicated, real fast.

First off, I had to figure out how big this city was gonna be. I mean, are we talking a little town or a massive metropolis? I spent days just staring at a blank screen, trying to picture it. I sketched out some rough maps on paper, you know, like those old-school city planners did. Felt kinda cool, I gotta admit.
Then, the whole scale thing hit me. If I made the buildings too big, the streets would look tiny, and vice-versa. So I started playing around with different sizes, drawing little boxes for buildings and lines for roads. I even made some cardboard cutouts to get a better feel for the space. My living room looked like a disaster zone, but it was all in the name of game design, right?
After that, I dived into the actual planning part. It’s not just about plopping down buildings wherever you feel like it. You gotta think about how many people are gonna live there, where the shops and parks will go, and how everyone’s gonna get around. I was reading up on urban planning stuff online – who knew there was so much to it? Things like zoning, population growth, and even the water supply. It’s nuts!
- I started by drawing zones on my map – residential, commercial, industrial, you know, the basics.
- Then I tried to figure out how many people could realistically live in each area, which was a whole other headache.
- Next up was transportation. I drew in roads, bus routes, and even a subway system (gotta dream big, right?).
I even looked into how real-life urban planners do their thing. Turns out, they’re the ones who decide how cities grow and develop. They’re like the masterminds behind the scenes, making sure everything runs smoothly. I have a newfound respect for those guys, let me tell you.
So yeah, I realized that building a city, even a virtual one, is a huge undertaking. It’s not just about making it look pretty, it’s about making it functional and believable. My little project definitely taught me a lot, and it’s given me a whole new perspective on the cities I see around me every day. It is really not easy to do that.

I did it at last! Although it took me a long time, I still learned a lot from it, which is a really good experience for me.
