Okay, so today I was digging into this whole Voldemort and Harry Potter thing, and man, it’s a rabbit hole. I mean, why did Voldemort, this super powerful dark wizard, want to off a baby? Seriously, I spent a good chunk of my day trying to piece this together.

My Research Process (A Total Mess, Honestly)
First, I hit up some Harry Potter wikis. You know, the usual fan-made stuff. I figured they’d have some quick answers. And they did, kind of. It was all about a prophecy, which, okay, I vaguely remembered from the books.
Then, I went back to the books. Actually that mean I just grabbed my phone and searched the online text version. I skimmed through the parts about the prophecy, trying to find the exact wording. It’s all dramatic and stuff, talking about “the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord.”
- Prophecy Time: So, this prophecy, made by Sybill Trelawney (who, let’s be honest, is a bit of a flake), basically says that a baby born at the end of July to parents who defied Voldemort three times would be his downfall.
- Voldemort’s Overreaction: Voldemort, being the paranoid dude he is, heard part of this prophecy and freaked out. He’s like, “Nope, can’t have anyone threatening my power.”
- Two Babies?!: This is where it gets kinda messy. Turns out, there were two babies who fit the prophecy: Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom. Seriously, two!
- Snape’s Plea:Okay and at same time I found, Snape, who was a Death Eater at the time, begged Voldemort to spare Lily Potter. Because, you know, he was in love with her.
I started connecting the dots. Voldemort chose Harry because, according to Snape (who only overheard part of the prophecy), he thought Harry was the bigger threat. Or maybe he just liked the sound of “Harry Potter” better. Who knows?
I spent a good hour just rereading different fan theories online. Some people think Voldemort saw a bit of himself in Harry (both were half-bloods, raised in less-than-ideal circumstances). Others think it was pure chance. I am just total comfused…
After all this, I’m still not 100% sure. But here’s what I think happened, in a nutshell:

Voldemort heard a prophecy, got scared, and decided to eliminate the potential threat. He picked Harry, probably because of Snape’s intel, and the rest is history. Literally. It’s all a bit convoluted, but hey, that’s magic for you.
So, yeah, that’s my deep dive into Voldemort’s baby-killing motivations. It was a wild ride, and I probably need a cup of tea now.
