My Journey: Finding Flights from Tijuana to Durango
Okay, so I needed to get from Tijuana down to Durango a little while back. Had some family stuff to take care of, you know how it is. Figured flying would be way faster than driving that whole way. So, the hunt for flights began.

First thing I did was just hop online. Fired up my usual search engine and typed in something simple like “flights Tijuana to Durango”. A bunch of those travel comparison sites popped up right away, the ones that show you prices from different airlines all at once. I usually start there to get a general idea.
Checking the Options
I clicked through a couple of those sites. Right off the bat, I noticed there weren’t a ton of direct flights, or at least not on the days I was looking at initially. Seemed like most options involved a layover somewhere, often in Mexico City or maybe Guadalajara. That adds time, of course, which wasn’t ideal, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
I saw names like Volaris and Aeromexico appearing quite a bit. So, my next step was to go directly to their websites. Sometimes you find slightly different options or maybe a better deal directly, though not always. I plugged in my dates again on each site.
- Checked Volaris first. They seemed to have a few flights, mostly with connections. Prices looked okay, kind of what I expected.
- Then checked Aeromexico. Similar story, flights with layovers. Sometimes their times were a bit different, so I started comparing.
Comparing and Deciding

It really came down to juggling a few things:
- Price: Obviously, wanted something reasonable.
- Layover Time: Didn’t want to be stuck in an airport for like, 8 hours. A couple of hours seemed manageable.
- Total Travel Time: Even with a layover, some options were faster overall than others.
- Departure/Arrival Times: Tried to find something that wasn’t crazy early leaving Tijuana or arriving super late in Durango.
I spent a good hour or so just clicking back and forth, comparing the different flight combinations. Found one on Volaris that looked pretty decent. It had a layover, I think it was in Guadalajara, but it was only for about two hours. The price was fair, and the times worked well enough for getting picked up in Durango without too much hassle for my family.
Booking the Ticket
Once I settled on that specific flight, the booking part was pretty standard. Went through the steps on the Volaris site: put in my name, passport info (always double-check that!), and picked my seat. I skipped most of the extras they try to sell you, like fancy seat selection or extra bags, just needed the basics. Paid with my card, got the confirmation email almost instantly. Felt good to have it locked in.
So yeah, that was basically it. Started with a broad search, narrowed it down by checking specific airlines, compared the details that mattered to me, and then booked it. Took a bit of time clicking around, but got it sorted in the end. Now just had to pack and get ready for the trip itself.
