Lock Twist Hairstyles: Simple Steps for a Stunning Look

Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my hair lately, trying out different styles. I stumbled upon this “lock twist” thing, and figured, why not give it a shot? It looked kinda cool and intricate, but I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off.

First things first, I washed my hair. Gotta start with a clean slate, right? Then I conditioned it, because my hair can get pretty dry. After that, I applied some leave-in conditioner to keep things moisturized, and let air dry.

Once my hair was mostly dry, but still a little damp, I grabbed my styling products, which are some twisting cream and I divided my hair into small sections. The size really depends on how thick you want your twists, but I went for about one-inch squares.

Now for the actual twisting. I took one section and applied a little bit of the twisting cream. Then, I split the section into two even strands. The key here is to twist each strand individually in a clockwise direction. Like, really twist them tight.

Once both strands were individually twisted, I started twisting them together, but this time in a counter-clockwise direction. It’s kinda like braiding, but with two strands instead of three. If you do it, you will find the two strands want to wrap together. I Just kept twisting all the way down to the ends. Some people use rubber bands to secure the ends, but my hair usually holds pretty well on its own. I did add a tiny bit of gel to the very tips, just to be safe.

  • Wash and condition hair.
  • Apply leave-in conditioner.
  • Section hair.
  • Apply twisting cream to each section.
  • Twist individual strands clockwise.
  • Twist the two strands together counter-clockwise.
  • Secure ends (optional).

I repeated this process for every single section. It took a while, I’m not gonna lie. My arms definitely got tired. But, I put on some music and just powered through. It takes more time if doing it alone.

After I was finished, my head was covered in these little twists. They felt pretty tight, which is good, because that means they’ll last longer. I spritzed my hair with a little bit of oil sheen, just to add some shine and reduce frizz, but be careful about the amount of oil.

Honestly, it was a bit of a learning curve. The first few twists were kinda wonky, but I got the hang of it eventually. My biggest tip is to make sure you twist the individual strands tightly enough before twisting them together. Otherwise, they’ll unravel pretty quickly, and make sure to use some product that can help to hold hair.
