Okay, so today I decided to mess around with the song “It’s Friday” by George Jones. I’ve always loved that tune, and I figured, why not try to do something with it?

Getting Started
First things first, I pulled up the song on my computer. Just listened to it a couple of times to really get the feel back in my head. You know, tapping my foot, humming along, the whole deal.
Figuring Out the Chords
Next, I grabbed my guitar. Now, I’m no pro, but I can usually figure out basic chords. I started by trying to find the key – pretty sure it’s in G. Then I just fiddled around, trying different chord shapes until it sounded… kinda right. It took a bit of back and forth, playing a bit of the song, then trying to match it on the guitar.
- Strummed a G chord… yep, that sounded okay.
- Tried a C chord next… seemed to fit.
- Then a D chord… yeah, that’s the basic progression.
I’m pretty sure I can get like 95% of it on guitar pretty easy.
Practicing, Practicing, Practicing
After I had the basic chords down, it was just a matter of practicing. I played along with the song over and over, trying to get the strumming pattern right. George Jones has this cool, laid-back style, so I tried to copy that as best I could. It’s not perfect, but hey, it’s getting there!
Adding My Own Twist
Then came the part get to the fun stuff. Once I’m starting to feel it, I start messing with it. Adding a few extra strums here, a little riff there. Nothing fancy, just enough to make it my own, you know?

So, yeah, that was my afternoon – messing around with a classic country song. It’s not gonna win any awards, but it was fun, and that’s what matters, It’s Friday, and time to have some fun.
