Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my Duke 390 again. This time, it’s the seat height. I’m not the tallest guy, and while the stock height wasn’t terrible, I wanted to see if I could get it a bit lower for a more comfortable feel, especially when stopping at lights.

Getting Started
First things first, I took a good look at the bike. I mean, really looked at it. Checked under the seat, checked the suspension links, all that jazz. I wanted to get a feel for what I was working with before I started wrenching on anything.
The Lowering Process
I decided to mess with is the preload on the rear shock. I used those tools which are easy to buy .
- I backed off the preload on the rear shock. Just a little bit at a time, mind you. I’d loosen it, sit on the bike, check the feel, and repeat.
- Checked:I made sure that it’s better than before.
The Result
It’s not a huge difference, maybe half an inch or so, but it’s noticeable. I feel a little more planted when I’m stopped, and that gives me a bit more confidence.
I’ll keep playing around with it, might try some different * took about 1 hour from start to finish and was really very very easy to get.
