Okay, so I’ve been struggling with my iron swing lately. It’s been all over the place – shanks, hooks, you name it. I decided it was time to get serious and really figure out what was going wrong. So, I started by watching a bunch of videos online.

My Practice Session
First thing I did was head to the driving range. I grabbed my 7-iron, my go-to club for practice, and just started hitting balls. No pressure, just trying to get a feel for things. At first, it was ugly. Balls were going everywhere. I felt like I had no control.
Then, I remembered something. It’s about keeping that swing path on point. I focused on trying to take the club back straight and then bring it down on the same line. I imagined a line running from the ball back through my stance, and I tried to keep the clubhead on that line as much as possible.
I started to slow things down. I mean really slow. Like slow-motion golf. It felt weird at first, but it helped me get a better sense of what my body was doing. I started to notice how my hips were rotating (or not rotating, as was often the case!).
I kept practicing, focusing on that straight back, straight through motion. And slowly, things started to improve. The balls started flying straighter, with a much more consistent trajectory. I still had some mishits, of course, but they weren’t as wild as before.
- Setup is KEY. I spent more attention on posture, ball position.
- Grip Check. I lightened my grip, after felt it was too tight.
- Slow and Steady. I slowed everything way down to feel the swing.
- Swing path Focus. I imagined that line and really tried to follow it.
After a couple of hours, I was hitting the ball pretty well. Not perfect, but definitely better than when I started. I’m going to keep practicing this, focusing on that consistent swing path.I feel I improved a lot!
