Today, I decided to tackle “moro mallorca” – sounds fancy, right? Well, it turned out to be a bit of an adventure. I started by, you know, just hitting up the search engine. I mean, where else do you begin these days?

I scrolled through a bunch of stuff, mostly travel blogs and pictures of beaches. Pretty, but not really what I was aiming for. I was thinking more along the lines of, could I make something, like a dish, inspired by this?
So, I refined my search, adding “recipe” and “food” to the mix. That’s when things got a little more interesting. I found some mentions of traditional Mallorcan cuisine, lots of seafood and interesting spices. It felt like I was getting closer.
Digging Deeper
I spent a good hour just reading through different articles and blog posts, trying to get a feel for the flavors and ingredients commonly used. I noticed a lot of almonds, olives, and, of course, fresh seafood. There was this one dish, a sort of fish stew, that kept popping up. It seemed like a good starting point.
The Experiment Begins
Armed with a vague idea and a shopping list, I headed to the grocery store. Let me tell you, finding some of these ingredients was a challenge! I ended up substituting a few things – I couldn’t find the exact type of fish, so I went with something similar that looked fresh.
- Gathered my ingredients: fish, tomatoes, onions, garlic, some herbs, and a handful of almonds.
- Chopped everything up – I’m no chef, so it wasn’t pretty, but it got the job done.
- Sautéed the onions and garlic, then added the tomatoes and let it all simmer.
- Threw in the fish and herbs, and let it cook until the fish was flaky.
- Toasted the almonds and sprinkled them on top for a bit of crunch.
The Result
Honestly, it wasn’t perfect. But it was edible! And it definitely had a Mediterranean vibe going on. The fish was tender, the sauce was flavorful, and the almonds added a nice touch. I think with a few tweaks, and maybe a proper recipe to follow, I could actually make something pretty good. It was a fun experiment, and I learned a little bit about Mallorcan cuisine along the way. Maybe next time I’ll try to find an actual Mallorcan cookbook!
