How I Hunted Down That Marvel Rivals Mutant List Mania
Alright, so yesterday, I kept seeing stuff online about all these heroes supposedly coming to Marvel Rivals later this year. Mutants popping up everywhere! My Discord was buzzing, Twitter feeds full of blurry pics and guesses. Figured, why not? I’ll try and piece together the actual confirmed roster myself. Seems like folks are thirsty for this info.
First thing I did? Grabbed my coffee, obviously. Can’t do any proper research without fuel. Fired up my browser. Hit up the official Marvel Rivals site. Scrolled around their ‘news’ and ‘characters’ sections. Saw the usual suspects they’ve been showing off since forever: Spidey, Iron Man, that Hulk guy looking huge on the tank posters. Not much new about mutants confirmed there officially. Just the basics. Kinda vague.

Had some doubts creeping in. Heard rumors about Storm kicking around. Where’d I see that? Oh right! That massive gameplay leak a while back. People swore they saw her lightning effects in unfinished menus. So I hunted down those leaked screen grabs folks saved. Compared them to the new official trailer shots. Side-by-side on my screen. Okay, the weather effects looked super similar to the leaked UI glimmer. Added Storm to my “Probably Real” column.
Started writing stuff down properly. Opened up a fresh Notepad doc. Tried organizing it:
- Super Obvious Confirmed: Magik (saw portals, heard her voice lines!), Nightcrawler (teleport spam!), Punisher (big guns blazing in trailers).

- WTF Maybe? No Thanks: Saw chatter online about some mutant named ‘Butterball’… laughed my head off. Zero evidence anywhere. Skipped that nonsense.
Double-checked everything against the developer interviews I could find. Devs sometimes slip hints, right? Listened to one podcast where they mentioned “fan favorite mutants” and “classic X-Men powers,” which kinda backed up the Magik and Storm buzz. Didn’t outright name them, but felt like a wink and a nod.
Man, it took ages! Went deep into subreddits, filtered out all the wild speculation threads about Apocalypse showing up (not a chance based on anything official). Just focused on stuff with actual footage or multiple trustworthy sources pointing the same way. Finally settled on this core list for 2024 as solidly “playable,” based purely on what I watched and pieced together:
