Alright so I finally got around to the Mystic Carrion quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 last night. Man, this one’s weird even for this game. Grabbed my coffee, sat down thinking “cool, undead problem in the city,” and dove in.
Finding the Creepy Guy
First problem: where is this dude? Took me forever to find him. Wandered around the sewers like a lost rat, checked all those cramped houses near Heapside Strand. Nothing. Seriously frustrating. Then I stumbled into a place I totally missed before – some fancy coffin shop near Philgrave’s Mansion. Big house on the map, easy to walk past. There he was, just chilling upstairs like a gross, mummified landlord. Big relief, felt dumb for missing it.
The Whole Disgusting Favor
He wants you to track down his runaway servants? Fine. Sounds simple. Wrong. These aren’t normal guys; they’re body parts. Literally. Had to find three pieces: an arm, a hand, and a heart. Found the hand first near some flaming skeletons. The heart was hiding with a zombie right outside Sorcerous Sundries – easy to miss behind some crates. The arm? Nearly walked past it – guy was stuck hiding inside a crumbling wall near the Elfsong Tavern. Had to smash the wall open. Felt weirdly proud spotting that.
The Messy Part
Here’s where things got messy. Brought his gross body parts back, feeling accomplished. He paid up with gold and some okay gear. Then I wondered… what if I just kill this undead jerk? Couldn’t resist trying. Attacked him. Big fight! Zombies everywhere! Finally beat him down… and the bastard just pulls himself back together! Huge groan moment. Learned the hard way: gotta get his heart permanently outta his chest.
- Heart location: Found it later near Ramazith’s Tower.
- The Trick: Smash it to pieces. Then go fight him again.
- Result: Stays dead this time. Poof. Gone.
The Really Annoying Bit
After he dusted, thought I was done. Wrong again. Went back to the coffin shop later, and those zombies guarding it? Still there! Still hostile! Had to waste time clearing them out AGAIN. Felt super tedious.
My Messy Conclusion
This quest is rewarding loot-wise, but it’s a headache. Easy to get lost, easy to fight him wrong, easy to miss cleanup. Plus, gotta remember to smash that freaking heart. Hope this saves someone the couple hours I wasted stumbling around those stinky sewers and back alleys!
P.S. Don’t forget to actually loot the fingers after dealing with his servants if you want the good ending for one character’s subplot. I almost missed that part too… felt real stupid.
