Okay, so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with Duke basketball players in the NBA draft. I’ve always heard they’re a big deal, but I wanted to see the actual numbers for myself.

Digging into the Data
First, I started by just, you know, Googling around. I typed in things like “Duke basketball NBA draft history” and “list of Duke players in the NBA.” Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming at first. Lots of websites, lots of names, lots of stats.
Then,I started to make some simple list.
- Find some reliable websites. I figured sites dedicated to sports or the NBA would be the best bet.
- Look for lists of Duke players who’ve been drafted. I wanted to see how many there were over the years.
- Note the draft year and the round they were picked in. This would give me an idea of how highly they were valued.
- Check out their current NBA status. Were they still playing? Were they stars, role players, or had they moved on?
Putting It All Together
I slowly started to compile everything. it’s a mess! To make sense of it,I decided to focus on a few key things:
- The total number: Just how many Duke players have actually made it to the NBA draft?
- First-round picks: These are the guys the teams really want, so how many of them came from Duke?
- Recent trends: Are Duke players still getting drafted a lot, or has it slowed down?
I spent a good chunk of time just copying and pasting names, years, and draft positions into a simple * I started sorting and counting.
After all that work, I finally had a clearer picture. It’s pretty obvious that Duke consistently produces a ton of NBA talent.

It was cool to see the names, the numbers, and the history all laid out. I definitely have a better appreciation for Duke’s impact on the NBA now.
