  • It was supposed to integrate with our existing tools. Spoiler: it didn’t. Not without a ton of manual workarounds, anyway.
  • Basic tasks that used to take minutes now took ages, involving clicking through screen after screen.
  • When we tried to get support, the response was slow and usually unhelpful. “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” sort of stuff.

I remember spending a whole week just trying to get one simple workflow configured. It was like wrestling an octopus. Every time I thought I had a handle on it, something else would go wrong. I’d fix one issue, and two more would pop up. My colleagues started asking me for help, and I felt bad because I was just as stuck as they were. We were all supposed to be “more productive,” but we were actually spending more time fighting this new beast than doing our actual jobs.

Management kept telling us to “give it time” and “embrace the change.” Easy for them to say, they weren’t the ones wrestling with it daily. We had meetings about the meetings we needed to have to discuss why things weren’t working. It became a bit of a joke, but not a funny one.

The Grand Finale… or Lack Thereof

After a few months of this, with productivity actually tanking, the whole thing just sort of… fizzled out. There was no big announcement, no “we messed up” email. It just quietly got shelved. All that time, all that effort, all that enthusiasm – gone.

For me, it was a real eye-opener. I learned that just because something is new and shiny doesn’t mean it’s good. And sometimes, the people making the big decisions are completely detached from the reality on the ground. It was frustrating, sure, but it also taught me to be way more skeptical of grand promises. That whole experience, it wasn’t impressive. Not even a little bit. It was the complete opposite. It actually made me start thinking about whether I was in the right place, you know? When you see so much effort go down the drain for no good reason, it makes you question things. Big time.
