Okay, here’s my attempt at writing a blog post in the style you requested, about “nyc shooting”:

So, the other day, I was messing around, trying to get a handle on this whole “nyc shooting” thing. I mean, it’s all over the news, right? But I wanted to see if I could dig up some actual data and maybe, I dunno, make some sense of it.
Getting Started
First thing I did? I hit up the internet, of course. Just started searching for anything related to “nyc shooting” and “data”. Honestly, at first, it was kind of a mess. Lots of news articles, opinion pieces… you know the drill.
Finding Some Actual Data
But, then I stumbled upon some official-looking websites. I was digging through the government public data. I am pretty sure that I found data related to reported incidents, maybe some stuff from the police department. I was clicking around, downloading spreadsheets… it felt like I was going down a rabbit hole, man.
Wrangling the Info
- Downloaded a bunch of files. Seriously, my downloads folder was a disaster.
- Opened them up. Some were CSVs, some were… well, I’m not even sure what some of them were.
- Started trying to clean things up. I’m no data expert, but I know enough to get rid of the obvious junk.
The “Aha!” Moment (Maybe?)
I finally managed to get some of the data into a format I could actually, like, read. I started playing around with different ways to visualize, started doing some basic filtering… you know, just trying to see if anything jumped out at me. Nothing crazy technical, I just wanted to try that I can use my eyes to see some real stuff.
The “Uh-Oh” Moment
And, well, let’s just say it was pretty grim. Seeing the numbers laid out like that… it’s different from just reading a headline, you know? It made the whole thing feel a lot more… real, I guess. It was sobering stuff.

I didn’t come up with any grand conclusions, or solve any mysteries. I’m just a regular person trying to use some basic data to understand this issue.
I’m just sharing my little experiment. Maybe it’ll inspire someone else to take a closer look, I don’t know.
