So here’s the thing – yesterday I totally blanked on a live esports tournament I’d been waiting weeks to watch. Yeah, that sucks right? Woke up today thinking “wait… wasn’t something happening last night?” Then it hit me like a truck. Missed the whole thing. Again.

What Went Wrong Exactly
Kicked myself for ten minutes first. Realized I did the classic stupid move: set ONE phone reminder at 9:00 PM but was doomscrolling TikTok when it popped up. Just swiped it away like an idiot. Later when dinner ran late washing dishes, it completely slipped my mind. Poof. Gone.
The Fixing Phase
Enough of this crap. Time to solve it permanently.
First grabbed my phone – opened the calendar app. Found next week’s match schedule. Did three things here:
- Set four overlapping alerts: 1 hour before, 30 min before, 15 min before, and when it starts
- Changed alert sounds to that obnoxious emergency siren tone – impossible to ignore
- Made phone auto switch to max volume 90 minutes before match start
Then ran to my PC. Opened Discord and messaged my buddy: “Yo scream at me when semis start next Thursday.” He replied with clown emojis but agreed.
Last step? Wrote “WATCH TOURNAMENT” on a bright orange sticky note and slapped it right on my monitor bezel where I couldn’t miss it.

Testing This Mess
Verified everything tonight with dry runs. Set fake match alerts – those air raid sirens actually made me jump off the couch. Saw the sticky note staring at me during work calls. Buddy even randomly DM’d “WATCH YOUR GAME DUMBASS” earlier just to troll.
Think I finally covered every angle this time. No more trusting my garbage memory alone. Next week’s match? That screen better brace itself because I’ll be glued to it when it counts.
