Okay, so today I’m gonna talk about something I was messing around with – looking into Phil Mickelson’s early years. Don’t ask me why, just got curious!

It all started with a random Google search: “phil mickelson young”. Just wanted to see some old pics, you know? But then I started digging a little deeper.
First thing I did was hit up Wikipedia. Standard procedure, right? Skimmed through his bio, looking for anything about his childhood and early golf days. Found out his grandpa was his first teacher – that’s pretty cool!
Next, I tried to find some old interviews. YouTube was my friend here. I spent like an hour watching clips of him talking about learning to play golf left-handed and practicing in his backyard. You can tell he was super dedicated even back then.
Then, I got a little more ambitious. I tried to find some articles about his amateur career. USGA website had some stuff, but it was kinda scattered. I ended up piecing together info from different golf news sites.
The biggest challenge was finding actual footage from when he was really young. Most of it is just photos and stories. But I did stumble upon a few grainy videos of him playing in college. It’s crazy to see how much his swing has (and hasn’t) changed.

I even tried to see if I could find his high school golf record. That was a dead end, though. High school sports info isn’t always easy to track down, especially from way back when.
So, what did I learn? Well, Phil was a golf prodigy from a young age. He had a natural talent, but he also put in a ton of work. And he had a supportive family that encouraged his passion. Nothing too surprising, but it was still fun to see how it all started.
Basically, I just spent the afternoon nerding out about golf history. Sometimes you just gotta follow your curiosity, even if it leads you down a random rabbit hole!
