Today, I decided to work on my short game, focusing on putting. I grabbed my putter and a few balls and headed to the practice green. It was a sunny day, perfect for golf, but I was sweating from how nervous I was. I haven’t practiced in a long time, I hope I didn’t get too rusty.

First things first, I needed to find the line. I placed a ball down and tried to read the green. This is always tricky. I walked around, crouched down, and tried to see which way the ball would roll. After a good look, I picked my line. Felt pretty confident, I must say.
- Started with some short putts, maybe three feet or so.
- Focused on getting the ball rolling smoothly.
- Tried to hit each putt with the same speed.
I spent a good hour just hitting these short putts. It was boring, but I knew it was important. I had to get the feel back. I had to remember that feeling of rolling the ball in, instead of just trying to smack it towards the hole. After a while, I started feeling more comfortable.
Next, I moved on to longer putts. This is where things get really interesting. I love the challenge of a long putt. I moved back to about 15 feet and started practicing. I focused on my line and tried to judge the speed correctly. It’s not easy, let me tell you!
I spent another hour hitting these longer putts. Some went in, most didn’t. But I was learning with each putt. I was seeing how the green broke, and how hard I needed to hit the ball. Slowly, I started to get a better feel for the speed. My lines were getting better too. I really felt like I was getting somewhere today! I was having fun, too, which I did not expect.
Practice Makes Perfect
After a solid two hours of putting, I called it a day. I was tired, but I felt good. I know I still have a lot of work to do, but I made some good progress today. I’ve got a long way to go, but today gave me some hope. I packed up my gear and headed home, feeling pretty satisfied. I think I’ll sleep well tonight. I can’t wait to get back out there and practice some more. Next time, I think I’ll work on my chipping. Or maybe I should hit the driving range? Who knows, possibilities are endless when you’ve got a nice day and some clubs.
