Sable 2024: Whats New? (Everything You Need to Know)

Okay, so today I messed around with Sable, this neat little program for making visual novels. It’s 2024, and I figured I’d finally give it a shot. Here’s how it went down.

Sable 2024: Whats New? (Everything You Need to Know)

First, I had to, you know, actually get Sable. It wasn’t hard. Went, found, and downloaded.

Getting Started

Once I installed everything, I opened it up. The interface? Pretty clean, not too scary. It’s got these different sections, like one for your story, one for characters, and another for images. Makes sense, right?

I started by making a new project. It’s basic. Input the project name, and save in the location where you want. I chose a folder on my hard drive.

Writing the Story

I started typing my story in the “Script” section.

I realized I needed some characters. I made new files and wrote down their names and a little bit about them.

Adding Images

Next, I wanted to add some pictures. I already had some images, so I imported them into Sable. The program let me connect the images to specific parts of the story, which was cool. That way, when the story reached that point, the picture would show up.

Making Choices

One of the coolest things about visual novels is the choices, right? Sable lets you do that pretty easily.

  • I could add “branches” to the story.
  • I simply created multiple options.
  • I could link each branch to a different part of the script.

Previewing and Exporting

Sable has this preview feature, so I could see how my story was looking as I went. It was super helpful for catching mistakes and making sure everything flowed right.

Finally, when I was (mostly) happy with everything, I exported the project. It creates an actually installable visual novel file.

So, that was my day with Sable. Not bad for a first try, I think. It’s definitely something I want to play around with more. Maybe I’ll even finish this visual novel someday!
