Alright so here’s how my dumb afternoon went trying to nail that Save the Cat mission in Wuthering Waves. Figured since everyone online says it’s super easy, I’d breeze right through it. Yeah, right.
Jumping In Way Too Confident
I logged in thinking, “Simple rescue mission? Pfft, done these a hundred times.” Went straight to where all those quick guide videos said the cat spawns near that noisy plaza area. Looked everywhere. Walls, rooftops, alleys – nothing. Scoured the place like three times. Felt like the game was gaslighting me. Where the heck was this stupid cat?
My first big mistake: I completely skipped talking to the NPC that actually triggers the event. D’oh. Just beelined for the spot. Don’t be me. Walked right past the guy holding a ‘Missing Cat’ poster near the bench.
Actually Finding The Thing (Eventually)
After feeling like an idiot, I finally talked to that NPC. Lo and behold, a shiny mission marker popped up way up high on some precarious scaffolding I hadn’t even thought to check. Got up there, saw the scrawny little pixel cat looking trapped. Easy win, right? Wrong again.
Just hitting the interact button doesn’t cut it. You gotta:
- Carefully approach the cat without sprinting (spooks it).
- Time the button press perfectly when the prompt actually glows yellow.
- Ignore the enemies spawning nearby until AFTER the cat is safe, otherwise they mess with you.
First try? I rushed in like a maniac, pressed the button too early, cat freaked out and teleported away. Mission failed. Respawned back at the NPC. Awesome.
Getting It Done (Finally)
Second try. Took it slow. Crept up like I was sneaking past my boss’s office at 5:01 PM.
- Waited just behind the cat until the “Rescue” prompt turned bright, solid yellow.
- Smacked the button.
- Cat vanished safely. THEN, smashed those annoying minions that popped up.
Went back to the NPC guy. Got the rewards. Whole process? Should have taken 5 minutes. Took me almost 30 because I skipped steps and messed up the actual rescue mechanic. Felt like such a knob.
So Yeah, Lessons Learned
Even “Easy” Guides Oversimplify: They just say “go here, rescue cat”. They don’t warn you about the specific button timing or enemies.
Don’t Skip the Walk & Talk: Talking to the NPC isn’t optional filler; it literally makes the cat appear.
Slow Down & Watch the Prompt: The difference between a glowing yellow “Rescue” prompt and a slightly faded one is everything. Press it yellow.
Honestly, felt more accomplished fixing my Wi-Fi last week. But hey, cat’s saved. Mission done. Onto the next thing that’ll probably kick my butt too.
