My Little Quest for Game Time
So, there I was the other day, with that familiar itch. You know the one, when you suddenly need to know something specific, right then and there. This time, it was all about the Lakers. My kid, he’s getting into basketball, and he kept pestering me, “Dad, when’s the game? When’s the game?” And honestly, I didn’t have a clue. Used to be, I’d just catch it on the news, or it’d be in the paper. Simpler times, maybe?
Anyway, I grabbed my phone. That’s the first step for everything these days, isn’t it? Opened up my browser, and just punched in something like “lakers game when”. Pretty straightforward, I thought.
And whoa, a flood of stuff. Scores from last week, predictions for next month, articles about player injuries – everything but a simple answer for the next game. Some sites looked a bit dodgy, all flashy ads and pop-ups. I hate those. Had to close a couple of tabs real quick. It’s like you’re wading through a swamp to find a clear puddle of water.
I refined my search a bit. Tried “Lakers schedule” and then “Lakers game today time”. That narrowed it down. Saw a few familiar names, like the official NBA site and ESPN. Usually, those are my go-to for sports stuff. They tend to be reliable, at least for basic facts.
- First click: NBA site. Took a second to load, lots of videos and stuff. Scrolled down, found the schedule section. Okay, good.
- Second check: ESPN. Pretty similar, big bold letters with the upcoming games.
And there it was. Plain as day. The date, the opponent, and most importantly, the time. Finally! It even showed the TV channel, which is handy, though we mostly stream things now. It’s funny, all this technology to get an answer that used to be printed on a piece of paper next to the TV guide.
So, I jotted it down for my son. Took me, what, five minutes of poking around? Not too bad, I guess. But it does make you think how much information we have, and how sometimes it feels like more work to find the simple things. Back in the day, if it wasn’t in the paper, you just… missed it. Now, you can find it, but you gotta do a little dance with the search engines. Still, mission accomplished. The kid was happy, and I could pretend I knew what was going on in the world of basketball for a little while longer.
