Alright, so I finally made it out to play Fossil Trace. Kept hearing about this place near Denver, out in Golden, the one with the dinosaur stuff. Figured I had to see it myself.

Getting there wasn’t too bad, found it tucked away near those foothills. First look, yeah, the clubhouse is nice enough, nothing too crazy fancy but clean. Staff were okay, got me checked in pretty quick which is always good. Wasn’t looking to waste time.
Hitting the Course
Grabbed my cart and headed out. Warming up was standard, range was decent. But you start playing, and yeah, it’s different. The first few holes felt kinda like a normal course, pretty well kept. Then you start getting into the main event, I guess.
- Those big rock formations just pop up. Pretty wild.
- They got signs talking about dinosaur tracks and fossils. You can actually see some impressions right there by the fairways on certain holes.
- Number 12, I think it was? Yeah, that one plays right through some massive rock pillars. Pretty cool view hitting your approach shot.
Honestly, it’s kind of distracting, but in a good way. You’re trying to focus on your shot, but you’re also looking at these huge stone walls and thinking about Triceratops or whatever walked around here millions of years ago. Pretty nuts.
My game? Eh, it was what it was. Had a few good drives, sank a decent putt or two. Also managed to send a ball flying into some tall grass near one of those rock walls. Gone forever. Felt like I was contributing my own modern fossil, haha. Some holes were tough, narrow fairways with trouble left and right. Others were more open. Kept me on my toes.
The course condition was pretty solid. Greens rolled true enough, fairways were mostly good. Saw a few marshals cruising around, keeping things moving, which I appreciate. Nobody likes a five-hour round.
Wrapping Up
Finished up on 18, which brings you back towards the clubhouse. Decent finishing hole. Didn’t hang around too much afterwards. Just dropped off the cart, loaded up the car, and headed out. Sometimes after walking and swinging for 4 hours, you just wanna get home, you know?
Overall thoughts? Yeah, I’d say check it out if you’re in the Denver area and want something different. It’s not just another golf course. The whole geology and history angle makes it memorable. It’s a solid track too, challenging enough. Good day out. Glad I finally played it.
