Alright so I was stuck in that damn stakeout mission on Black Ops 6 for weeks. Couldn’t get past it. Kept getting spotted immediately or running out of time. Felt like throwing my controller.

Getting My Butt Kicked
First few tries? Total disaster. Straight up sprinted to where I thought enemies would be, thinking I could just gun ’em down. Wrong. Got lit up before I even saw anyone. Tried hiding in bushes like people online said, but still got spotted super easy. My heart was pounding, hands sweaty, just failing over and over. Watched a couple of those “pro” guides, sounded complicated with all the fancy terms.
Felt stupid. Why was this so hard?
Slowing Way Down (And Not Camping Like a Loser)
Threw out the “run and gun” idea. That was trash for this. Also stopped sitting in one bush forever. Didn’t work. Instead, I started moving real slow. Like, snail pace. Seriously. Held my breath just walking.
- Didn’t sprint at all. Not even for a second.
- Used buildings and big rocks for cover constantly. Peeked around corners like a scaredy cat.
- Listened hard. Footsteps are loud in BO6, way louder than I realized. Turned down other game sounds.
Suddenly, I started hearing patrols before I saw them. Huge difference.
The “Look and Listen” Trick That Changed Everything
Here’s the big dumb thing I figured out that made it click:
- Stop moving.
- Find some dark corner or decent cover.
- Just sit there quietly for about 10 seconds. Literally count it. Chill.
- Listen like crazy. Where are the footsteps? Left? Right? Multiple guys?
- Look hard. Scan the distance, look for shadows moving, heads popping up over walls. Don’t stare at one spot.
- Then move slow as heck to the next piece of cover. Repeat. Over and over.
Sounds obvious, right? But I wasn’t doing it. I was always moving, always anxious. Stopping to actually listen and look gave me the info I needed.
Patrol Routes Are Actually Dumb
After dying like 50 times (no joke), I started noticing patterns. Patrols walk the same stupid loops! They’re predictable as heck.
Instead of fighting them head-on, I realized the mission wants you to avoid them. Slink around like a shadow. Let them walk past you while you’re tucked behind a dumpster or whatever. Wait for that clear path, then creep forward again.
My “hiding spots” weren’t for camping forever. They were temporary stops to spy.
The Easiest Way I Found
So pulling it all together, here’s what actually worked for me:
- Start Slow, Stay Slow: Forget running. Walking speed only.
- Cover is King: Always be near something solid you can duck behind instantly.
- Stop & Spy: Every few seconds, stop in cover. Count to 10. Listen like your life depends on it and look everywhere.
- Patrols are Blind: Wait for them to walk past. Don’t engage unless forced.
- Don’t Rush the Objective: It’s a stealth mission! Take your time, even if the timer stresses you. Ignore the timer until you get the route down.
Finally passed it on the next try after sticking to this simple routine. Felt so easy I almost couldn’t believe I struggled. Sometimes the “easy way” is just moving like an old man and using your ears.
