So, I needed some names for the horses in the game I’m working on. Nothing fancy, just some solid, believable names. I didn’t want to just pull them out of thin air, figured I’d do a little digging first.

Brainstorm Time
First, I jotted down some basic categories to get the ball rolling:
- Classic Names: You know, the ones you hear all the time. Stuff like “Shadow,” “Spirit,” “Lucky.”
- Appearance-Based: Names that fit how the horse looks. Think “Black Beauty,” “Snowflake,” “Rusty.”
- Personality-Based: If the horse is feisty, maybe “Comet” or “Rebel.” If it’s calm, maybe “Willow.”
- Funny names:If I want something really special, I can try some funny names, such as “Bad Horse”.
I spent like, 10 minutes just scribbling down whatever came to mind. No judgment, just getting ideas on paper.I even googled a bit! I just typed in “popular horse names” and “horse names by color” and stuff like that. Got a bunch of lists, some of them were pretty helpful, others were kinda…out there.
Narrowing it Down
Okay, so I had this HUGE list. Time to whittle it down. I went through and highlighted the ones that I liked, the ones that felt right for the game. I also crossed off a bunch that were too common, or just didn’t fit the vibe.
I ended up with a good mix of names. Some strong, some gentle, some a little quirky. I think they’ll work great! Now I just gotta assign them to the right horses in the game. That’s the fun part! Maybe I will choose “Bad Horse”!
