Okay, so today, I got my hands dirty working on a Suzuki TS250M. It’s an oldie, but a goodie, and I’ve been itching to get it running smoothly again. First thing I did was check the basics, you know? I pulled out the spark plug, gave it a good look, and cleaned it up a bit. It was pretty grimy, so I figured that might be part of the problem.
Fuel System Fun
Next, I moved onto the fuel system. The gas tank was drained, and I gotta say, some pretty nasty stuff came out. Old gas, some rust… the usual suspects when a bike’s been sitting for a while. I took the carburetor off — man, those screws were tight! — and gave it a thorough cleaning. I used some carb cleaner and compressed air to blow out all the jets and passages. You wouldn’t believe the gunk that came out of there!
- Drained the fuel tank.
- Removed the carburetor.
- Cleaned the jets and passages.
Putting it Back Together
After everything was nice and clean, I carefully reassembled the carburetor and put it back on the bike. Fresh gas went into the tank, and I made sure all the fuel lines were connected properly. I also checked the air filter — it was surprisingly clean, so I just gave it a quick wipe down.
The Moment of Truth
With everything back together, it was time to see if my efforts paid off. I turned the fuel petcock on, gave the bike a few kicks, and… nothing. Bummer! But I wasn’t giving up that easily. I checked the spark again, made sure it was getting fuel, and then I realized… I hadn’t choked it! Duh. I pulled the choke lever, gave it another kick, and it roared to life! It was a bit rough at first, but after a few minutes of warming up, it started to idle smoothly. Success!
I still need to fine-tune the carburetor a bit, but it’s running way better than it was before. It’s always satisfying to bring an old bike back to life. This Suzuki TS250M is going to be a fun ride!
