The 1950 Baseball Season in Review: Major Upsets and Big Wins

Okay, so I’ve been digging into the 1950 baseball season lately, and man, what a time that must have been! It’s like stepping back into a completely different world. I mean, 1950, that’s a while back, right?

The 1950 Baseball Season in Review: Major Upsets and Big Wins

First off, I started by just Googling “1950 baseball season” to get a general feel. That’s where I found out about how New York was the place to be for baseball back then. They had three teams, and it seemed like they were always in the World Series. Can you imagine that? New York Yankees, Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants. It’s wild!

Then, I dove a bit deeper. I wanted to know who won what and all the details. That’s when I stumbled upon some sites that listed the standings, the scores, who was playing, you name it. Turns out, the New York Yankees won the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. They swept them, 4-0! That’s gotta sting for Philly fans, even after all these years.

I also learned that the National League standings were pretty interesting. The Phillies were at the top, but it wasn’t a runaway. It’s cool to see how competitive it was.

Reading through all this, I got a sense of how big baseball was back then. I mean, this was before the internet, obviously, and TVs were still pretty new. So, newspapers were the main way people followed the games. It’s just a whole different way of experiencing sports.

Here’s a little of what I put together:

  • World Series Winner: New York Yankees (they beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0)
  • National League Champs: Philadelphia Phillies

I started picturing myself back in that time, reading the newspaper every morning to catch up on the scores, maybe listening to the games on the radio. It must have been something else. I’m still digging into it, but it’s been a blast learning about the 1950 season so far. It really feels like a golden age of baseball, as some people call it.

I just wanted to share what I’d found, hope someone out there finds this stuff as interesting as I do. If anyone has some cool stories or facts about this season, I’m all ears!

Go Yankees!

I realized that I was really lucky to have found so much information and to share this with you guys.
