Alright, so I was messing around with numbers today, and I stumbled upon something that I thought was kinda interesting. It’s super simple, but it got me thinking. I was playing with the expression “1 3 divided by,” and I wanted to see how different approaches would shake out.

The Basic Approach
First, I just did the straight-up division. You know, the way you’d probably do it in school.
- I took the 3.
- And then, I divided it by 1.
Pretty obvious, right? 3 divided by 1 is 3. No surprises there. I wrote it down in my notebook just to keep track.
Switching It Up
Then I thought, “What if I flip the order?” It’s still “1 3 divided by,” but what does it mean to my process? So that is what I did.
- I started With 1.
- Then I used 3 to divide.
This time, the result is totally different. Because 1/3=0.33333333……
I jotted this down next to the first result. Seeing them side-by-side, It is a good reminder.

My Takeaway
Okay, so it’s not exactly rocket science. But it did make me think about how important order is, even in something as basic as division. I mean one way, it’s 3. The other, it is 0.333333… Huge difference, all because I switched up that initial setup and changed what I did first. Also I decide keep my notebook.
I think I am going to use that book and try more things to find fun fact.
