Okay, so, a few years back, I got this itch to get into motorcycling. I had my eyes on a brand-new 2015 CB500X. I heard it was a solid bike, especially for someone who’s just starting. The price was pretty good, too – much better than some of the other bikes I was looking at.
I started to read up a lot of stuff about this bike. I found out that these bikes were super popular and were selling like hotcakes. And I was thinking, “Man, I gotta get one before they’re gone!” But then, I saw some news that they might stop selling them in India because not enough people were buying them. That got me a bit worried. Would it be a bad idea to get a bike that might not be around much longer?
But then I thought, who cares if it’s discontinued, as long as it’s a good ride, right? I really wanted a bike, and they were going for cheap. I mean, I could get a used one for just a grand less than a new one. So, I started hunting around.
I did some more digging and found that the CB500X had a pretty decent tank size, 17.3 liters. Plus, people were saying it was really fuel-efficient. They claimed you could go over 467 kilometers on a full tank. That’s a long way!
I also read that some folks thought the bike was a bit small compared to other bikes in its class. But for me, that wasn’t a big deal. I wasn’t planning on doing any crazy off-road stuff, just cruising around town and maybe some longer trips on the weekends.
I kept seeing these posts online, people talking about the CB500X. There were discussions like, “Should I get this or the NC750X?” and “How do I lube the throttle cables?” It seemed like a pretty active community of CB500X owners, which was cool.

Anyway, after reading all this stuff, I finally decided to pull the trigger. I found a used 2015 CB500X in pretty good condition and bought it. The guy I bought it from had taken good care of it.
The first time I rode it, I was a little nervous, but it was awesome. The bike felt really smooth, and it was easy to handle. I remember thinking, “This is perfect for me!” I started riding it to work every day. My colleagues loved my bike, and I loved the freedom of riding it.
I’ve had the bike for a while now, and I’ve taken it on a few longer trips. It’s been great. I’ve had to do some basic maintenance, like changing the oil and lubing the chain, but nothing major. I’ve learned a lot about taking care of a bike just by owning this one.
- First Ride: Felt a bit nervous but quickly got comfortable. The bike handled really well, even in city traffic.
- Daily Commute: Started using the bike to get to work. It was a game-changer. No more traffic jams!
- Longer Trips: Took the bike on some weekend getaways. It performed great on the highway, and the fuel economy was as good as advertised.
- Maintenance: Learned how to do basic maintenance like oil changes and chain lubing. Found it pretty straightforward.
My two cents?
Overall, I’m really happy with my 2015 CB500X. It’s been a reliable and fun bike to ride. If you’re looking for a good, affordable, and easy-to-handle bike, I’d definitely recommend checking it out. Don’t worry too much about it being discontinued. Just make sure you find one that’s been well-maintained, and you’ll be good to go. It’s been a great bike for me, and I think it could be for you, too. Trust me, the feeling of the wind in your hair (under your helmet, of course) is something else!
