Thinking about lebron on knicks: Would he fit with the current New York roster?

So, I got thinking about LeBron James and the New York Knicks the other day. It popped into my head while I was just scrolling through some old basketball highlights, you know, the usual stuff.

Thinking about lebron on knicks: Would he fit with the current New York roster?

It really took me back to 2010. Man, what a crazy time that was. The whole “Decision” thing. I remember sitting there, like everyone else, wondering where he’d end up. New York was buzzing, absolutely convinced they had a real shot. They cleared all that cap space, guys like Donnie Walsh were running the show, and the Garden was, well, the Garden.

I decided to dig around a bit, refresh my memory on how it all went down. I started pulling up old articles and forum posts from back then. It’s funny looking back.

What I Remembered (and Dug Up)

Okay, so here’s what stuck out from my little trip down memory lane:

  • The Hype Was Real: Seriously, the media frenzy in NY was off the charts. Every tabloid, every sports show, it was all LeBron, all the time.
  • The Knicks Meeting: I looked into the actual pitch they gave him. Reports vary, right? Some say it was slick, others say it was kinda clumsy. They apparently had James Gandolfini and Edie Falco do a little Sopranos reunion video for it? Sounds weirdly desperate looking back.
  • The Other Teams: You had Chicago making a strong push, New Jersey (at the time) with Jay-Z involved, Cleveland begging him to stay, and then… Miami.
  • Miami’s Angle: They didn’t just offer a team; they offered a ready-made superteam with Wade and Bosh. That felt different.

Thinking it through, the Knicks had the history, the market, the Garden mystique. They sold him on being the savior, the guy to bring a title back after so long. But when I really sat and thought about it, what else did they really have back then? The roster wasn’t exactly championship-ready, even adding LeBron.

They were basically selling a dream, a legacy project. Miami was selling rings, pretty much guaranteed contention right out of the gate. When you put it like that, his choice makes a ton of sense, business-wise and basketball-wise.

It wasn’t just about being the guy; it felt like he wanted to win, and win quickly, with guys he trusted. The Knicks’ plan involved a lot more hoping and waiting for other pieces to fall into place. Maybe their pitch focused too much on the past glory and the city itself, and not enough on the immediate basketball future?

So yeah, that was my little dive into the LeBron-to-NY saga. It’s fascinating how one decision completely altered the league for years. The Knicks eventually got Amar’e, then Melo, but that LeBron ‘what if’ still hangs around. Just interesting to revisit the whole process and see how the chips fell. Makes you realize how much goes into these decisions beyond just the city or the jersey.
