Building My Own Cheat Sheet
I began to see some patterns. Certain abbreviations popped up repeatedly in similar contexts. So, I created my own little cheat sheet, a simple table with two columns: “Abbreviation” and “Possible Meaning.”
- SARL – Okay, this one I actually figured out relatively fast. It’s like “Ltd.” in English.
- SA – This one was trickier, but I eventually got it. It is an other common type of company.
- SAS,I found that is also a company type.
- TVA – This kept popping up in invoices, so I figured it had something to do with taxes. And yeah,it’s their Value Added Tax.
The Ongoing Process
It’s still a work in progress, to be honest. Every time I encounter a new document, I add to my cheat sheet. It’s not perfect, but it’s way better than staring blankly at a page full of letters that don’t make sense.
The big lesson? Context is king. Don’t just look at the abbreviation itself. Look at the words around it, the type of document, and the overall topic. And don’t be afraid to build your own resources as you go. It’s all about that slow and steady progress!
