Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into this baseball player, Zach Neto, lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a ride. I heard a lot of talking about him and I wanted to get some stats of him.
First off, I started looking into his overall performance in the 2024 MLB season. I mean, the guy’s a shortstop for the Los Angeles Angels, so naturally, I wanted to see how he was doing. I found out he’s 24 years old, and apparently, he’s made some serious moves forward this year. They say he’s hit 23 homers, which sounds pretty awesome to me.
Then I started digging deeper. I found this stuff about “splits,” which I guess means how a player performs in different situations. One thing I looked into was how he does in doubleheaders. You know, those days when they play two games back-to-back. It seemed interesting to me because playing one game is tiring, but playing two is wild. From what I read, it’s not uncommon for teams to win one game and lose the other in a doubleheader. That’s called “splitting” the doubleheader. I even saw an example where the Yankees “salvaged a split” by winning the second game. And then, get this, sometimes they even refer to a doubleheader as just a “split.” Like, “We wanted to play a split tomorrow.” That’s something I learned today.

- Found out about “hard-hit balls.” Apparently, if a ball is hit with an exit velocity of 95 mph or more, it’s considered “hard-hit.” Neto seems to have a decent number of those. And there’s something about a launch angle between eight and 32 degrees, too. Complicated stuff.
I found a table about his performance against different opponents. It is a bit of a headache to go through all those numbers and compare, but it did give me a better idea of how he handles different pitching styles. Some teams he really crushes, and others, well, not so much.
Hard-Hit and Launch Angle
Now, this part got a little technical. I came across this thing called “Statcast” that defines a “hard-hit ball.” Basically, it’s a ball that’s hit really, really hard—95 mph or more off the bat. And then there’s this “launch angle” thing, which is the angle the ball goes up in the air. From what I gathered, a good launch angle is somewhere between eight and 32 degrees. It’s all about getting that sweet spot, I guess.
So, yeah, that’s been my journey into Zach Neto’s stats and splits. It’s been a mix of easy-to-understand stuff and some head-scratching moments. But hey, I’ve learned a lot about baseball, and especially about this Zach Neto guy. He’s definitely a player to keep an eye on.
