Okay, so I wanted to get into every nook and cranny of Hogwarts in Hogwarts Legacy, right? But those darn locked doors were driving me nuts. I kept seeing all these cool rooms and chests behind them, and I had to figure out how to get in. Here’s how I finally cracked the code, literally.
Getting the Alohomora Spell
First things first, you absolutely, positively need the Alohomora spell. You can’t even think about opening locked doors without it. You’ll get this during the main story quest, “The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament.” It’s the one where you help Gladwin Moon, the caretaker, deal with those Demiguise Statues.
Just play through the main story, and you’ll run right into it. Can’t miss it.
Leveling Up Alohomora
Now, here’s the tricky part. Alohomora starts at level 1, which only opens, well, level 1 locks. You’ll quickly find level 2 and 3 locks all over the place. To upgrade Alohomora, you gotta keep collecting those Demiguise Moons for Gladwin. It’s a bit of a grind, I won’t lie, but totally worth it.
- Alohomora Level 2: You’ll need to find 9 Demiguise Moons and bring them back to Gladwin. He’ll teach you the upgraded spell after a little chat.
- Alohomora Level 3: This one’s the real kicker. You’ll need another 13 Demiguise Moons after getting level 2. Yep, more hunting. But once you hand them over, Gladwin will finally give you the top-tier Alohomora.
The Lockpicking Minigame
Once you have the spell (and the right level), actually opening the locks is a little minigame. Here’s how I approached it:
- Find the Green Spark: Use your left stick, I rotated it slowly, feeling for a vibration. When it vibrates a lot, I moved it around that general area until the outer gear started turning. That’s your green spark.
- Find the Red Tumbler: Same thing, but with the right stick. I jiggled it around until the inner gear started spinning.
- Hold it Steady: The gears can take different amounts of time to finish turning. The key here is to keep holding both the green and red sparks in place. You’ll know the time is different based on the sounds, the red takes a lot longer to finish turning usually.
- Patience is Key: Don’t rush it! It’s easy to mess up, but it feels pretty good when it opens. I messed up, a lot. But found a flow to it.
That’s it! It took me a while to gather all the moons but being able to unlock every door, and open every secret chest, it was so worth it in the end!
