Okay, so today I decided to dig into this “Walter Tull football” thing. I’d heard the name before, a bit of a legend, you know? So I wanted to see what I could find and, more importantly, try to piece together his story in a way that made sense to me.

I started, like always, with a simple search. Just typed in “Walter Tull football” and see what popped up. Lots of websites, of course, some looking more reliable than others. I skimmed through a few of the top results, trying to get a general feel for who this guy was.
Turns out, Walter Tull was a pretty big deal! One of the first black professional footballers in England, and not just that, he also served as an officer in World War I. That’s a combination you don’t hear about every day.
Digging Deeper
After that, it needs to be put it all together. To make is more impressive. I created a timeline in my practice:
- Born:I wanted a birthdate. Found out he was born in 1888 in Folkestone, Kent.
- Early Career:When did he start playing? Seemed like he began with Clapton, then moved to Tottenham Hotspur.
- Tottenham Hotspur: That’s a big name! It’s very famous. I wanted to see what he achieved there.
- Northampton Town:He ended at here.
- The War:I needed the dates he joined the army, and when/where he died. That’s the biggest research.
Then i used the timeline, filling in all the gaps with what I could find from various websites. Some had more detail on his football career, others focused on his military service. It was a bit like doing a jigsaw puzzle, I think.
It felt good to organize my reaserch process and my results.

So, yeah, that’s what I did today. Learned a lot about a really interesting historical figure, and practiced my research skills at the same time. Not a bad way to spend a few hours!
