Alright, so I decided I needed a new t-shirt recently. Not because I needed one, you know, just felt like making something. Things have been kinda quiet, not much happening, really. That phrase just popped into my head: “not a lot going on at the moment”. Seemed about right.

First thing, I had to find a shirt to put this on. Dug through my drawers and found this plain grey one. It’s one of those softer cotton ones. Always liked cotton, feels better when it’s warm, lets the air through, you know? Not like those cheap scratchy ones. This one felt good, decent weight.
Getting Started
Okay, got the shirt. Now, how to get the words on there? I wasn’t looking to start a whole screen-printing setup in my garage. Nah, too much work. Thought about iron-on letters, but that sometimes looks a bit stiff.
Ended up grabbing some fabric markers I had lying around from some old project. Simple enough. Black marker on a grey shirt, nice and clear.
So, I laid the t-shirt out flat on the kitchen table. Made sure it was smooth, no wrinkles. Eyeballed where the text should go, kinda across the chest. Didn’t measure it perfectly or anything, just went for it. Wanted it to look casual, handwritten.
The Actual Doing
Took the cap off the marker. Took a deep breath, ha! Then just started writing it out. “not a lot going on at the moment”. Tried to keep the letters reasonably straight and spaced okay. It’s not perfect, a bit wobbly here and there, but that’s kinda the point, right? Shows a human did it.

Let it sit there for a good while to dry properly. Didn’t want it smudging everywhere. The instructions on the marker said something about heat setting, so I covered the text with a cloth and ran an iron over it for a bit. Hopefully, that helps it stick.
Washing and Wearing
After letting it sit overnight, decided to give it a wash. Didn’t just chuck it in with everything else. Did a cool wash, gentle cycle, by itself mostly. Definitely didn’t put it in the tumble dryer. Learned my lesson there – stuff always seems to come out smaller. Just hung it up to air dry.
- Found a plain cotton shirt.
- Decided on using a fabric marker.
- Wrote the text directly onto the shirt.
- Let it dry and heat-set it with an iron.
- Washed it carefully and air-dried it.
And that’s pretty much it. It came out alright. The text stayed put after washing. It’s comfy. It’s simple. Just a grey t-shirt that says “not a lot going on at the moment”. Feels honest, you know? Nothing fancy, just a record of a quiet afternoon project.
