Then I jumped to another one that was supposed to be more “powerful.” It was powerful, alright. Powerfully confusing. I ended up with a mix of stuff:
- One program for trying to get a basic model shape.
- Another for attempting to add textures, which just looked like mud.
- And a third one where I thought I could make her move, but she mostly just twitched.
It was a complete mess. My desktop looked like a digital bomb went off, files everywhere, versions all mixed up. A real hodgepodge.
Where It All Went Sideways
The real trouble started when I actually tried to capture Yae Sakura herself. It’s not just about drawing the lines or modeling the shapes. It’s about her… her spirit, I guess? She’s got this elegance, but also this fierce energy. Trying to get that across? Way harder than I imagined.
My attempts to make her look graceful usually ended up with her looking like she was about to trip over her own feet. And the dynamic poses? More like she was having a weird spasm. I watched so many reference videos, trying to break down the movements, the flow of her hair, the way her outfit moved. The hair alone! Don’t even get me started on trying to make digital hair look good and not like a stiff wig. It was a nightmare.
Every time I thought I’d made some progress on one part, I’d look at the whole thing and realize it just didn’t feel like Yae Sakura. It was like I had all these ingredients, but I had no idea how to cook the actual dish. I spent hours, days even, tweaking tiny details, changing colors, redoing animations from scratch. My respect for the original artists and animators went through the roof. Those folks are on another level.
In the end, what did I have to show for it? Well, it wasn’t the epic scene I dreamed of, that’s for sure. It was more like a… a very clumsy, slightly terrifying version of Yae Sakura trying out some new, awkward dance moves. Definitely not portfolio material.
But you know what? I actually learned a ton. Mostly, I learned that I’m not as good as I thought I was, which is a humbling experience, let me tell ya. And I learned that creating something, anything, that truly captures the essence of a character like Yae Sakura takes an insane amount of skill, patience, and probably a bit of magic. My little “practice” with her was a bit of a disaster, but it was an eye-opener. It’s still sitting on my hard drive, a reminder of my grand ambitions and my spectacular, well, learning curve. Sometimes I look at it and just shake my head. What a ride.
