Okay, let’s talk about that Padres meme I put together the other day. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking, just a little something that popped into my head while watching the game highlights.

Getting the Idea
So, I was scrolling through some post-game clips, you know, just catching up. There was this one moment, I think Tatis Jr. made a ridiculous face after a close play at second base. It wasn’t even the main highlight, just a quick reaction shot the camera caught. Right away, I thought, “That’s got potential.” It just looked funny out of context.
Finding the Right Shot
Finding that exact frame wasn’t super easy. I had to replay the clip a few times on my tablet. Pause, rewind, play, pause again. Finally got it paused at the peak goofy expression. I just took a screenshot right then and there. Quality wasn’t perfect, but hey, it’s a meme, not a masterpiece, right?
Making the Meme Itself
Then came the fun part. I opened up a basic photo editing app on my phone. Nothing fancy, just one of those free ones that lets you add text and stuff.
- First, I cropped the screenshot a bit, just to focus more on his face and cut out some distracting background stuff.
- Then, I started thinking about the text. What would fit that expression? I typed out a few ideas. Something about Mondays, something about seeing the food bill… typical meme stuff.
- Settled on a simple line that felt right for the face. I used a pretty standard, bold font. White text with a thin black outline usually works best so you can read it against almost anything.
- Positioning took a minute. Tried the text on top, then the bottom. Ended up putting it split, a bit above and a bit below his head. Just felt balanced.
Finishing Touches
I didn’t do much else. No crazy filters or stickers. Sometimes less is more, especially with reaction memes. The main thing was just the face and the caption working together. Saved the image to my phone’s gallery.
And that was pretty much it. Took maybe 15 minutes total, mostly fiddling with the text placement. Shared it with a few friends who follow the Padres, got some laughing emojis back, so I guess it worked. Just a simple process for a silly little picture, really.
