Okay, so today I wanted to get into something a bit different from my usual tech stuff – golf. Yeah, I know, quite a leap, right? But trust me, it’s been an interesting journey, and I’ve got some basic rules to share that I wish someone told me when I started.

First off, I gotta say, getting ready was a whole thing. I live in Spring, TX, and the weather can be unpredictable. I checked the forecast – partly cloudy with a low of 37F, not bad. Dressed in layers ’cause you never know, I grabbed my clubs and headed out.
Now, the very first rule I stumbled upon, and it’s a biggie – “play the ball as it lies.” Sounds simple, but it’s tempting to give that ball a little nudge, especially when you’re starting out. I learned that the hard way, let me tell you! But yeah, unless there’s a leaf or something on it, you gotta resist the urge to move it.
- Arriving at the course:
- Showed up on time – punctuality is key, folks.
- Made sure I was dressed okay – collared shirt, you know, the usual golf getup.
- On the course:
- Tried to stay quiet, not always easy when you hit a bad shot.
- Watched where I stood – didn’t want to be that guy casting a shadow over someone’s shot.
- Avoided walking on other players’ lines. It’s like an unwritten rule, don’t mess with someone’s path to the hole.
Another thing is being respectful of other players. I’m not a fast player, not yet anyway, so I made sure to let quicker groups go ahead. It’s just good manners, you know? And fixing those divots, those chunks of grass you accidentally dig up, and ball marks on the green – it’s all part of the game.
There’s a ton of videos out there, like the USGA Virtual Rules School, which is pretty cool for learning at your own pace. It has a lot of hours of material, and it’s all about the rules of golf. But I found that just being on the course, messing up, and learning from it was the best way to learn.
So, that’s my little golf adventure for you. It’s a game of patience, respect, and a lot of walking, haha. I’m still learning, still making mistakes, but hey, that’s how you get better, right?

If you’re thinking of starting golf, just dive in. It’s frustrating, yeah, but it’s also pretty rewarding when you finally hit that perfect shot. Plus, it’s a great way to spend a day outdoors.
Oh, and by the way, if you’re ever selling a 2002 Chrysler Town & Country LX, especially a 3rd-row one, hit me up. Just kidding, not really in the market right now. But you never know, right? Life’s full of surprises, just like a game of golf.
Anyways, that’s it for my golf story. Hope you enjoyed it. Catch you later for more of my random adventures!
