My Go with the ‘Sean Rose’
Alright, let me tell you about this ‘sean rose’ thing I tried out. Heard some folks talking about it, supposed to be a real looker but finicky as hell. You know me, I like a bit of a challenge, so I figured, why not? Gotta try things myself, right?
So, I got my hands on one. Wasn’t easy to find, ended up ordering a small bare-root thing online. Showed up looking like a dead stick. Honestly, had my doubts right from the start. Found a spot in the garden, sunny but not too blazing hot. Dug a decent hole, mixed in some compost I had lying around, tried to give it a good start.
Planted that stick, watered it in real good, and then… nothing. For weeks, it just sat there. I’d go out, poke the dirt, check if it was too wet, too dry. It wasn’t doing a thing. Started thinking I’d just planted a twig. Some of the older leaves it came with started getting these ugly black spots, classic problem. Had to snip those off quick.
Then the aphids came. Little green pests all over the new growth that finally, finally decided to show up. Felt like I was out there every other day, squishing them or trying some soapy water spray. It was one thing after another. This ‘sean rose’ was living up to its reputation, making me work for it.
Watching and Waiting
I kept at it. Made sure it got consistent water, especially when it got hot. Fed it a bit, but not too much – heard they could be sensitive. Talked to a neighbor who knows roses, he suggested I try a specific organic feed. So I did that. Slowly, very slowly, it started to look more like a proper rose bush. More leaves, looked healthier, greener.
Then one day, I spotted it. A tiny little bud. Felt like a major win! Watched that thing like a hawk for days. It got bigger, started showing a hint of color. I was properly excited by this point, after all the fuss.
Finally, it opened. Wasn’t the biggest bloom I’ve ever seen, not by a long shot. The color was nice, a sort of deep pinkish-red. Pretty unique, I’ll give it that. But you know what? After all that work, all that babying and fighting off problems, seeing that flower felt damn good. It actually bloomed.
So that’s my ‘sean rose’ story. It’s still out there. Still needs attention, probably always will. It taught me a bit about patience, that’s for sure. Sometimes the difficult ones are the ones you remember most, yeah? It wasn’t easy, but I did it. Got the ‘sean rose’ to grow and flower. A small victory, but feels good.
