What is Livetiming MX? (Your Easy Guide to Live Motocross Timing)

Okay, so I wanted to mess around with this thing called livetiming mx. I saw some stuff about it online, like, it helps you show race results live to people following the race, you know, fans and stuff. It’s all part of this Speedhive Live Timing Web thing, or something like that. Sounded pretty cool, so I figured I’d give it a shot.

First, I had to kind of poke around to even figure out what I needed. There wasn’t a lot of clear info, but it’s connected to this MYLAPS Sports Timing thing, whatever that is. And there’s something about GDPR, which I guess is some privacy regulation stuff, that I had to click through. I just wanted to get the timing data up and running, so I didn’t pay too much attention to all that.

Then, I saw something about how they improved the live timing and scoring during some big championship in 2024. And apparently, there is some sort of ultimate race companion for the 2025 season, with live updates and lap times and all that. That sounded pretty advanced for what I was trying to do, which was just fool around with it.

I found some live timing results from some motocross race, the Ironman at Ironman Raceway. It had all the details from the race, but that wasn’t what I needed. I was trying to figure out how to actually set this thing up for my own use, not just look at other people’s results.

Finally, I found something about how teams can connect to a local timing server. This is apparently a direct link to the timing screens and event results, and it doesn’t even need internet, which is pretty neat. It mentioned a “Main Local Server Page” and a phone number, (304) 284-0084, for something called “Timing.”

So, I messed around with the local server thing, and that’s where I started to get somewhere. I got it to show the timing data, but it wasn’t super intuitive, to be honest. There was a lot of trial and error. But hey, I got it working, at least partially. I think there’s a lot more to this livetiming mx thing that I haven’t figured out yet, but it was fun to play around with it.

What is Livetiming MX? (Your Easy Guide to Live Motocross Timing)
  • Found some basic info online about broadcasting live race results.
  • Poked around MYLAPS Sports Timing and GDPR stuff.
  • Saw mentions of improvements and a future “race companion.”
  • Found live results from a motocross race but needed to set it up myself.
  • Discovered the local timing server and got it partially working.

It’s kind of a niche thing, and the information is scattered all over the place. But if you’re into racing and want to broadcast live results, it seems like it could be a pretty useful tool. Maybe I’ll mess around with it more later and see what else it can do.
