My Take on the “How You See Me” Challenge
Alright, so I kept bumping into this “how you see me challenge” online lately. You know how it is, something catches your eye, and you think, “Hmm, maybe I should try that.” It didn’t seem too complicated, just a bit of fun, maybe learn something small. So, I decided to jump in and see what it was all about.
First step was figuring out the “how they see me” part. I wasn’t just gonna pull ideas out of thin air. That felt kinda pointless. I actually reached out to a few people I know well, family and a couple of close friends. Kept it simple, just asked them straight up, “If you had to pick a few words, how would you describe me?” Waited for the replies. Got some stuff I expected, like “dependable” and “hardworking.” Got some others that made me chuckle or pause a bit. Things like “too serious sometimes” or “surprisingly goofy.” It was a mixed bag, which is probably how it should be.
Okay, armed with these descriptions, I had to figure out how to present it. Lots of people were doing videos, so I thought, why not? Seemed like the most straightforward way. I started digging through my phone’s camera roll. Pulled out photos and short video clips. I tried to find stuff that kinda matched the words people threw at me. A picture of me focused at my desk for the “hardworking” bit, a goofy selfie for the “surprisingly goofy” comment, videos from hiking trips because a few mentioned I liked being outdoors. Just grabbing bits and pieces that felt representative.
Then I opened up a basic video editing app. Nothing fancy, just something to stitch the clips and photos together. I arranged them in a sequence that felt okay, no real grand plan. Added some simple text overlays on some of the images – just the words people had used. Stuff like:
- Dependable
- Quiet observer
- Loves dogs (Yeah, that one came up!)
- A bit stubborn
- Loyal
I kept the whole thing pretty short, under a minute I think. Didn’t mess with crazy effects or music much, just wanted the core idea to be there. Exported the video. Done.
Watching it back was an interesting moment. Seeing those words paired with images of myself… it’s a different perspective. It wasn’t some huge shock or anything, but it definitely made me think. It’s easy to have one image of yourself in your head, and seeing these little snapshots based on others’ views gives you a slightly different angle. It felt kinda vulnerable, but also kinda cool. A good little exercise in seeing how the inside matches the outside, or doesn’t sometimes. Definitely worth the hour or so I spent putting it together.
