What Ryan McCarthy is doing now (Get all the latest news and information about his current activities)

So, I was listening to this podcast the other day, just some random chat about productivity, I think. And this name, Ryan McCarthy, kept popping up. They were talking about his ideas on, like, simplifying how you work, getting stuff done without all the usual fuss. My own way of doing things can be a real mess sometimes, you know? One minute I’m writing, the next I’m down a rabbit hole of cat videos. So, I thought, okay, what’s this Ryan McCarthy guy all about? Let’s give it a look.

My Little Experiment

I didn’t go out and buy books or anything, just did some casual searching online. Found a few articles, maybe a blog post or two that mentioned his approach. It wasn’t super clear, no magic “five steps to success” kinda thing. More like a philosophy, really. The big idea seemed to be about cutting out the noise, focusing on one thing at a time. Sounds dead simple, right? But we all know simple isn’t always easy.

So, I decided to try it out for a week. My “Ryan McCarthy experiment,” I called it. Whenever I sat down to do some work, like writing or even just answering emails, I’d try his supposed technique. I’d clear my desk – well, push the clutter to one side – turn off my phone notifications, and just try to think about the single task at hand for a few minutes before diving in. No multitasking. That was the big rule.

  • Day one was a disaster. My brain just wasn’t having it. I’d be trying to focus, and then suddenly, “Oh, did I pay that bill?” or “What am I having for dinner?”
  • By day three, it got a tiny bit better. I managed to write a whole paragraph without stopping to check some random thing online. A small victory!
  • The hardest part was definitely the no-multitasking. I’m so used to having ten tabs open and jumping between things. It felt weird, almost like I wasn’t being productive enough if I wasn’t juggling.

It reminds me of when I tried to learn to meditate. Everyone says, “Just clear your mind.” Yeah, try telling that to my brain which has a to-do list longer than my arm and the attention span of a goldfish sometimes. It’s a real struggle, that focus thing.

What Happened in the End?

So, after a week of this, what was the verdict? Did I become a productivity guru? Not exactly, haha. But I gotta say, there was something to it. On the days I really stuck to the “one task” rule, I did feel a bit less frazzled. The work I did felt more… solid, if that makes sense. Like I actually thought it through instead of just rushing.

But then, real life hit. A big project came up, deadlines got tighter, and suddenly, that calm, focused approach felt like a luxury I couldn’t afford. I was back to my old ways, juggling emails while on a call, trying to write notes with one hand and sip coffee with the other. So much for the serene McCarthy method!

It made me think. This Ryan McCarthy, or anyone who pushes these super-focused methods, they probably have a point. But maybe it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. Or maybe it’s something you have to build up to, like a muscle. You can’t just go from zero to Zen master overnight, especially when the world around you is still spinning like crazy.

So, my little dive into the Ryan McCarthy way of thinking was interesting. I picked up a few good reminders about slowing down and trying to concentrate. But I also realized that sometimes, you just gotta do what you gotta do to get through the day, even if it’s a bit chaotic. Maybe the real trick is finding a little bit of that focus in the middle of the mess. Who knows, right?
