My Go at Drawing a Woman Golfer Cartoon

Alright, so I got this idea buzzing around in my head the other day – wanted to try drawing a woman golfer, but like, in a cartoon style. Nothing too serious, just something fun.

First thing I did was just grab my tablet. Didn’t really have a solid plan, you know? Just started sketching out some basic shapes. Thought about different poses. Maybe her mid-swing? Or looking annoyed after hitting it into the rough? Nah, decided to go for a classic, simple swing pose. Seemed friendlier.

I messed around with the proportions a bit. Didn’t want it super realistic. It’s a cartoon, after all. So, slightly bigger head, simpler body shape. Just keeping it light and easy.

Getting the Details Down

Then I started refining the sketch. Gave her a simple polo shirt and some shorts. Added a visor, ’cause golfers wear visors, right? Spent a bit of time trying to get the golf club looking okay. Getting the angle and the grip took a few tries. Just erased and redrew until it felt sort of right.

For the face, I kept it really simple. Just a couple of dots for eyes and a nice curved line for a smile. Didn’t want anything too complicated. Happy golfer vibes.

Once the main figure felt decent, I thought about the background. Didn’t need much.

  • Drew a little patch of grass under her feet.
  • Added a tiny golf ball flying off, just a white speck really.
  • Kept the rest totally blank, or maybe a soft blue for the sky. Didn’t want to distract from the golfer herself.

Adding Some Color

Next up was color. I just picked some bright, cheerful colors. Think I went with a pink shirt, maybe some blue shorts? Made the visor white or maybe matched the shirt. Standard green for the grass, obviously. I wasn’t trying to be fancy with shading or anything. Just filled in the areas with flat colors. Nice and clean, like an old-school cartoon.

I used the drawing app on my tablet for all this. Made it easy to undo mistakes, which I did. A lot. Especially with the linework. Went back over the lines to make them smoother and a bit bolder once the colors were in.

And yeah, that was pretty much it. Just kept tweaking little things – the curve of the smile, the position of the club – until I felt like, “Okay, that looks like a woman golfer cartoon.” It’s nothing amazing, just a simple drawing, but it was fun to make. Just wanted to share how I went about it, step by step. Pretty straightforward process, really. Just messing around until it looks right.
