Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get into this whole PGA Tour thing for a while now, and I finally took the plunge. It all started when I saw some highlights on TV, and I was like, “Hey, those guys make hitting a little white ball look pretty cool.” So, I decided to give it a shot myself. Let me tell you, it’s a lot harder than it looks.

First thing I did was buy some golf shorts. You gotta look the part, right? I went to a sports store and picked out a couple of pairs. Nothing too fancy, just some plain ones. I figured I’d invest in some nicer ones if I actually stuck with it.
Next, I needed some clubs. I didn’t want to spend a fortune, so I borrowed a set from my buddy, Mark. He’s got tons of sports gear. He’s one of those guys, you know. I told him I’d pay him back with beer. Hopefully, he is okay with that.
Then came the hard part – actually trying to play. I went to a driving range with Mark. He gave me a few pointers. I swung, and I missed. I swung again, and I whiffed it completely. It was a bit embarrassing, to be honest.
- Stance: Mark told me to stand with my feet shoulder-width apart. Sounded simple enough.
- Grip: He showed me how to hold the club, which felt kinda weird at first.
- Swing: This was the tricky part. Backswing, downswing, follow-through… My brain was overloaded.
After a few buckets of balls, I finally started to make some decent contact. It wasn’t pretty, but I was hitting the ball, and it was going forward. Baby steps, I guess.
Next up, I decided to try an actual game. I went with a few friends who are also beginners. It’s more fun when everyone is equally terrible. And, of course, it made me feel much better about myself.

We played a nine-hole course, and it was a humbling experience. I lost a bunch of balls, ended up in a few sand traps, and my score was, well, let’s just say it was high. But you know what? I had fun. It was a good day out in the sun, and I got some exercise. So, I felt great.
I’m still not very good, but I’m determined to keep practicing. Maybe one day I’ll be able to break 100. Or at least not embarrass myself too much on the course. And if not, at least I’ll look good in my golf shorts.
What I’ve Learned So Far
- Golf is hard.
- Golf shorts are comfy.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
- It’s okay to be bad at something, as long as you’re having fun.
- Beer is always welcome after a long day on the golf course.
So that’s my PGA Tour shorts story so far. I’ll keep you guys updated on my progress, or lack thereof. Wish me luck!
