Alright, so I decided to get some practice in with the volleyball today. It’s been a little while, wanted to shake off the rust, you know?

First thing, I had to actually find my ball. Dug through the garage for a bit, finally found it tucked behind some old boxes. Gave it a quick wipe down, it was a bit dusty.
Getting Started
Took it outside to the backyard. The grass is kinda uneven, but it’s good enough for some basic stuff. Pumped it up a little first, felt a bit soft. You gotta have the right pressure, makes a big difference.
So, I started simple. Just tossing the ball up and trying to get a clean bump back to myself. Over and over.
- Toss up.
- Get underneath.
- Make the platform with my arms.
- Pop it straight up.
Sounds easy, right? Well, the first few were all over the place. One went into the bushes, haha. Had to fetch that.
Working on Setting
After maybe fifteen minutes of bumping, I moved on to setting. This is tougher for me, always has been. Tried to focus on using my fingertips, making that diamond shape with my hands.

Really focused on pushing the ball upwards, not just slapping it. Did sets against the side of the house. Thump… thump… thump. Trying to get a consistent height and distance from the wall.
It’s tricky. Sometimes my hands weren’t quite right, and the ball would spin off weirdly. But I kept at it. Just trying to build that muscle memory again. Feeling the ball connect with my fingers properly.
Wrapping Up
Did a few practice serves too, just tossing it up and hitting it over an imaginary net. Nothing too powerful, just working on the motion and contact. The ball felt good today, solid connection most of the time.
Spent about an hour out there, I guess. Arms feel it a little now. But it felt good to just get out and hit the ball around. Simple practice, but necessary. Need to do this more often.
